A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States, found that the average single parent has time to sleep less than adults in families with two parents. At least 43 percent of single parent has time to sleep less than 7 hours a day.
Specialists and sleep researcher Dr. Stuart Quan of Brigham and Women's Hospital, England, commented on the results of the study and said it is a common occurrence. The demands of one's time especially for child care can be much greater in families with one parent than in families with two parents.
"In general people will sacrifice sleep time when they have competing priorities like work, domestic work, and social obligations," said Dr. Stuart told LiveScience.
Well, if someone did not get enough sleep 7 hours in a day, then the risk is going to be more easily hurt. Dr. Stuart explains the body's immune system will weaken it works so infections and diseases so easily come.
Previous studies specifically mention that lack of sleep increases the risk of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and the likelihood of early death. Moreover not only physical, mental health will also be affected.
"At least 7 hours of sleep a day is needed by adults so that optimal body health," said Dr. Stuart.
