Studies Have Many Tattoos Can Strengthen Immune System

Tattoos today still gets negative stereotypes by society and its owner is often seen as a delinquent. But behind it is not all about tattoos negative, in fact according to a study in the American Journal of Human Biology there are benefits to be obtained by the human body.

Researchers from the University of Alabama said that the existence of several tattoos on the body was able to improve the immune system. As a result, people who have a lot of tattoos may be more resistant to infection and rarely general flu-like illness.

Dr Christopher Lynn as one researcher explains how to work the tattoos boost the immune system starts from pain responses given during the process of tattooing. First got the tattoo was certainly ill, but then the next one will feel less pain and Lynn equate it like a sport.

The study was conducted by measuring the levels of the stress hormone cortisol and antibody immunoglobulin A from the participants before and after the tattoo session. From that Lynn knew that when someone tattooed the first time the immunity will drop dramatically due to pressure by the hormone cortisol is released by the body in response to stress.

Now the people who often tattooed, cortisol issued less so more immunoglobulin available. Plus tattooed body often also have a higher immunological response because ordinary stimulated.

"When you get a first stress response, the body will try to restore the situation. But when you add the stress repeatedly, the body will automatically be set to a higher standard," Lynn said as quoted from MedicalDaily

Related to this, researchers warned also that people who are sick not to be tattooed. The reason is as already described that stress hormones will go out and suppress immunity.
