When Eaten, this worm Claimed Can Restore Intestinal Inflammation

Never eat, see the worms just feels already amused and disgusted. However, researchers from the US said, the worm could be a remedy for inflammation usus.Baru recently found the NYU Langone Medical Center, gastrointestinal disorders such as Crohn's disease or diseases caused by inflammation of the intestine common in developed countries, especially in the US and Europe West.
After investigation, it turns out this is related to parasitic worms that live in their intestines. When compared with parasites or gut microbiota living in Asians, Asians may be more fortunate.
The key lies in the intestines of worms were found in the Asian population, where as a result of inflammatory bowel disease are rare. "The incidence of bowel disease are more prevalent in the US and Europe than in India and Southeast Asia," said researcher Ken Cadwell.
From here, Ken took the initiative to find out if the parasitic worms that can be used to treat patients with Crohn's disease.
Ken initially using mice that had been genetically modified so that loss of a gene called nod2. The absence of this gene is often associated with the emergence of Crohn's disease. Then they deliberately fed 10-15 worm eggs found in the intestines of Asians earlier.
The result was stunning. As reported by CBS News, mice that had been infected with parasitic worms had decreased the number of bacteria called Bacteroides, which are often accused of leading to high risk of Crohn's disease.
"When we rat infection with worms, immediately detect any difference. Even when we go into, we see that the worms have fueled the growth of a specific microbiota," concluded Ken.
Not only that, the presence of this worm also adds to the number of good bacteria called Clostridia in the gut of the mice up to 10-fold. This bacterium is widely known able to reduce inflammation. Since the Clostridia, Crohn's symptoms in rats such as bleeding in the intestines and scabs go down drastically.
Nevertheless, Ken realizes that this effect may not always seen in patients with Crohn's disease or other intestinal inflammation caused. For that he needs to do more in-depth research regarding the benefits of the worm.
