In Women, Obesity Increases Risk of Asthma

Women who are obese are twice more likely to have asthma than women with a healthy weight. Interestingly, the association between weight with asthma was not observed in men.

Scientists from the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC), which published the findings do not yet know exactly why there are differences based on gender.

"It's an interesting question and I am not sure anyone can answer that," said Dr. Lara Akinbami, who led the study, quoted from NYdailynews.

Using the data from the years 2011-2014, the scientists reveal 15 percent of women with obesity also has asthma. Whereas in the women with a healthy weight, only 8 percent had asthma, and the figure is 9 per cent of women overweight.

According Akinbami, the relationship between obesity with asthma has not been completely revealed. Still need more research to find answers to these questions.
