Healthy food, such as fruits and vegetables seem more expensive than junk food. As a result, many people are likely to choose junk food for daily meals. But unfortunately, the choice of junk food for the daily diet has contributed to the obesity epidemic.
"Most people think healthy food is more expensive than junk food," said Rebecca Mozaffarian, project manager for the YMCA / Harvard Program as reported everydayhealth.

The new study, conducted at the YMCA found that healthy snacks are not always more expensive and in some cases even more economical. The study lasted from 2006-2008 conducted by researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health.
The researchers evaluated the snacks offered to 32 children in four cities. The study
sets the standard for snacks served at the YMCA, including water, offering whole grains and fruit or vegetable with each snack. In addition, also avoid foods that contain trans fats as well as food and sweet drinks.

The research results will be published in the journal Preventing Chronic Disease edition in February 2012.
Some healthy snacks with relatively low prices in the US include oranges, carrots, apples, sliced cheese, water, wheat bread and milk.
