This has been demonstrated in a study reported in the American Heart Association journal, Circulation. According to the study, people who drank coffee in moderation - less than five cups a day, can reduce the risk of death from heart disease, nerve disease, type 2 diabetes, and a desire to commit suicide.
"Bioactive compounds in coffee may reduce insulin resistance and systematic tissue swelling," said Ming Ding, MD, lead author of the study
and a doctoral student at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts.
"This compound is also responsible for turning the association between coffee and mortality. However, further studies should be carried out in researching the biological mechanisms that cause these effects," he said.
Coffee consumption in sufficient quantities per day lowers the risk is lower than deaths due to heart disease, neurological disease, Type 2 diabetes, and suicidal thoughts.
Live Science quoted on Tuesday the present invention is based on data from three studies that are still running.
Scientists get the habit of people drink coffee for four years through a food questionnaire, and followed their progress for 30 years. In follow-up, a number of 19 524 women and 12 432 men died from the case.
Generally, people who drink coffee regularly are those who smoke and drink alcohol. To separate the effects of coffee on cigarettes, researchers repeat the analysis of those who do not merokok-- and found that the more visible benefits of coffee.
"Regular consumption of coffee could fit into a healthy and balanced diet," said senior author Frank Hu, MD, PhD, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at Harvard. "However, certain populations such as pregnant women and children should beware of high caffeine intake from coffee or other beverages."
This study did not show a direct relationship and effects of coffee consumption with death so that should not be interpreted arbitrarily. One potential shortcoming of this study is the participants were asked to report how much coffee they consume, though researchers find the answers they can trust.
Previous studies found that the associations were inconsistent between coffee drinkers and total and cause-specific mortality risk. This study adds to the written evidence that coffee consumption is enough to provide health benefits, although further research is needed to determine in detail about how coffee can affect the body, and a variety of different types of coffee that has had its share.
