Is Food and Beverage Fermentation Always Good for Colon?

Fermentation is a food processing techniques that have been known to man for thousands of years. In each of the areas, especially in Asian cultures, foods and fermented beverages are easy to find.

The bacteria are generally used for fermentation are the good bacteria that is good for digestion. Humans need it to fight the bad bacteria in the stomach and restore balance to the body's immune.

But how does it work and what all the fermentation product is good for health? Professor of epidemiology at King's College London Tim Spector said it's not that simple.

"There are a lot of fermented foods out there and not all been undergoing formal tests so it is difficult to say what can they do in the body. But if they are made naturally, without vinegar, arguably innocuous," said Spector was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Spector who wrote the book "The Diet Myth - The Real Science Behind What We Eat 'said wine and beer even once is a fermentation product but has peculiarities that can not say 100% healthy.

The important thing of this fermentation product to be helpful is to be absolutely certain bacteria are able to breed once in the stomach. Sometimes some products do not have enough bacteria able to survive to get to the intestines.

Therefore, some studies suggest foods or fermented beverages should be consumed on a regular basis so that the amount of good bacteria in the stomach enough.

"All of the food (fermented red) that there has mixture of different bacteria. This means that some foods may be able to save more benefits when compared to other foods," commented micro biologist Dr Gemma Walton from Reading University.
