Florida - According to the study, several species of birds build nests in the region crocodile silence. This was done to keep their eggs in order not preyed upon by predatory mammals such as possums.
For birds, the eggs were lost due to predators is the biggest threat in terms of preserving the descent. Although, nested on top of a crocodile also does not mean no risk.
Two families of birds were found nesting on top of a crocodile is Pelecaniformes, like white ibis and great egrets, and Ciconiiformes, for example heron. This was reported by the Daily Mail
Scientists from the University of Florida studied the fanged animal in the Everglades. The aim was to see whether there is a difference of crocodile topped with a bird's nest with nothing.
They trap the crocodile adults and adolescents in several locations. The activity was carried out after the completion of birds build their nests - so as not to interfere with the winged animals.
Based on the research it was found that the crocodile with a bird's nest on it have better physical shape and have more weight than those who did not. This is because they have more energy reserves than those who do not live near the nest.
These mutually beneficial relationships occur because the birds are located a few meters above the crocodile feel protected. Meanwhile, crocodiles obtain food easily in the swamp. Sometimes found a baby bird fallen from its nest.

A researcher at the University of Florida, Dr. Lucal Nell, said "Our study provides compelling evidence that both the nesting birds and crocodiles benefit from each other. This situation occurs when a critical time in the stages of
life: birds get security nest and raise their children, while crocodiles at the time before spawn.
It has a significant contribution to the continuity of life in the Everglades, since both birds and crocodiles are very important for ecological sustainability. Since the phenomenon of crocodiles and birds nesting wetlands appeared in many subtropical and tropical regions, the type of relationship must be considered as one of the global conservation efforts.
According to the researchers, the effect can be very powerful. Allows when crocodiles compete for territories which are colonies of birds for nesting.
However, they added that the need to return to the wetland to monitor the crocodile. Researchers want to make sure that if the crocodile, whose territory is not contained colonies of nesting birds have a body smaller and more densely populated.
In addition, these interrelationships can be extended to other species of crocodiles and birds, such as in Australia, India, and Amazon.

As written in the journal Plos One, the authors explain, "These findings suggest that the interaction was very beneficial for both groups and illustrate how selective pressures may have shaped and strengthened the ecological interactions were very positive."
Dr. Nell told the Mail Online, "We believe that both species concerned with his ego respectively and mutually beneficial relationship is merely a byproduct of such behavior."
"The bird has been proven to be interested in crocodile territory, and where there are crocodiles, no raccoon or possum (predators that threaten the bird's nest) are present," he added.
Dr. Nell also revealed a reciprocal relationship that the two animals. He said, "Most likely, the bird has benefited from the alligator because of its presence preclude the presence of predators to the nest. Our research shows that crocodiles get a great nutritional by nesting near bird colonies and of the report is not published showing the crocodile may be attracted to the colony as well."
"We can not say where the first thing that happened, but I believe that because the two animals to benefit, they will be closer to each other," he added.
