Fish Oil May Fight Alzheimer's Disease


Consuming a diet with fish oil for three weeks was found to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease in mice. It was tested in a study to support the development of dietary approaches to combat brain disorders in humans.

At the EU-funded project, Lipidi Diet - a result of the therapy and prevention of lipid nutrients to the nerves and cognitive abilities in aging, Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia - researchers from the Institute of Physiology, Czhech Academy of Sciences in the Czech Republic designed several patterns lipid-based meal that aims to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease and relieving symptoms.
Studies show that young mice with symptoms similar to Alzheimer's disease who were given an experimental diet containing fish oil or stigmasterol for 3 weeks can relieve some symptoms of this disease.
The study was published in the journal Current Alzheimer Research.
