The researchers simultaneously discovered a gene that could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, but on the other hand researchers also found that blood group O can keep the arteries of heart disease.
"Certain genes can cause a person susceptible to plaque buildup in heart arteries but did not have a heart attack, whereas different genes lead to heart attack when someone already has a plaque in the arteries," said Dr. Muredach P Reilly, a professor of medicine at the Cardiovascular Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, as quoted from HealthDay,).

Reilly said this study shows that diverse relationships between genetics and cardiovascular health, because not all of the genes for heart disease is the same. The report is published in the January 15, 2011 edition of The Lancet online.
In this study the team Reilly compares the nearly 13,000 people with coronary heart disease to 7,000 people without the condition.
Meanwhile, to identify specific genes that may play a role in heart attacks, researchers compared 5,800 people with coronary disease who experienced a heart attack to 3,600 people with coronary heart disease but have never had a heart attack.
Tim Reilly managed to identify a new gene called ADAMTS7 associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease.
In addition specific genes are owned by someone with blood type O was able to protect against heart disease, and type O blood type known as the universal donor red blood cells.
Nevertheless blood type O only cover the risks of heart attack rather than the overall heart disease and stroke.
