Video Game Not Can Improve Brain Capability

Florida - Over the last ten years, many studies and news reports that action video games such as Medal of Honor or Unreal Tournament can improve perceptual and cognitive abilities. But apparently the news was unquestionable truth.

Walter Boot, assistant professor of the Department of Psychology, Florida State University, critically evaluate these studies. Boot outlined that research over the last ten years which showed the benefits of playing video games is fundamentally flawed.

"Although busy discussed, in fact there is little evidence that games improve the ability to think," he said as quoted from medicalxpress.com.

He saw that a number of studies that support the primacy of the skills of video gamers have methodological weaknesses. Many studies comparing the cognitive abilities of a video gamer and not a
video gamer, then finding that video gamers superior.

However, Boot and his colleagues showed that the experience of playing video games does not mean necessarily result in perceptual and cognitive abilities better. It could be that people who have the ability to become a successful video gamer just interested in the video game.

Boot grew up with video games. At first, she was happy to hear the research which claims that playing action video games can improve alertness. He and his colleagues then do your own research to find out is there any other skills that might increase as a result of playing video games. But they can not find effect as found in previous studies.

"The idea that video games can improve thinking ability is actually interesting because it represents one of the cases in which cognitive ability increased as a result of exercise is not done directly. But we did not find any benefit from exercise video game," said Boot.

Some studies Boot not only failed to repeat the same conclusion on the previous findings, but there is no standard method required in this kind of study.

"If you play the game to improve thinking skills, you will only be wasting your time," said Boot. "Play as you enjoy it, not because they could boost your brain power," Boot lid.
