Many people do not like to be kissed his ears because it feels amused. Not only the risks, studies have shown that kiss on the ear can also cause permanent deafness, especially in infants and children whose eardrums are still weak.
In medical terms, permanent deafness due to be kissed on the ear known as the cochlear ear-kiss injury. Technically, this disorder occurs due to pressure is blown from the mouth while kissing ears pressed and deform the membrane and the eardrum.
Not much research revealed it, so there is no exact data on how many patients had
experienced it. But clearly, this case has been reported since 1950 and at least that there were 30 reports of similar cases.
The last case was reported recently by Dr. Levi Reiter of Hofstra University, after dealing with a patient who is deaf since 5 years ago. Female patient was profoundly deaf since got a kiss on the ear of his affection.
"I think this case is very unique. Apparently there are many cases of hearing loss that can not be explained to the child, and I am the cause is a kiss on the ear," said Dr. Reiter, who will publish his findings in scientific journals as quoted by MSNBC.
In addition to the case of patients five years ago, Dr. Reiter also explore similar cases since it was first reported in the 1950s. At least he managed to collect 30 cases, which will soon be reporting in the International Journal of Audiology and the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology.
According to Dr. Reiter, infants and children are most susceptible to ear-kiss injury when he gets a kiss on the ear. The reason is simple, at the age of the membrane and the eardrum is not absolutely perfect so it is easily damaged due to the effects of air pressure.
