On February 20, 1962 or 54 years ago be a proud moment for the citizens of the United States. Astronauts from the land of Uncle Sam, John Gleen successfully completed a space mission with a rotation around Earth.
As published by the BBC on This Day, using spacecraft "Friendship Seven", Gleen successfully circled the Earth three times with a total distance of 81,000 miles or about 130 thousand km at a speed of 17,000 mph, or about 27,000 km per hour.
