Vitamin Overdose Can Make Hair Loss


Hair loss in women occur due to several reasons such as hormonal changes, genetics, stress, malnutrition, drastic weight loss, certain diseases, some medications and poor hair care. Eating too many nutrients through vitamin supplements can also cause hair loss.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, too much vitamin A can cause hair loss in men and women, as reported by Livestrong.

Basically vitamin A with the recommended amounts can help prevent hair loss and other symptoms associated with toxicity of vitamin A. However, most cases of vitamin A
toxicity occurs because vitamin A is too much of a vitamin supplement.

If you are experiencing hair loss and other side effects associated with vitamin A toxicity, ask your health care provider to check the levels of vitamin A in your body.

According to Medline Plus, in addition to hair loss, there are other symptoms of excess vitamin A, such as blurred vision, dizziness, headache, liver damage, nausea, sensitivity to sunlight, vomiting, hair and oily scalp, flaking or itching of the skin and skin color changes to yellow.

According to the National Office of Dietary Supplements, too little vitamin A can also cause problems such as night blindness and decreased immune function. Therefore, it is recommended to eat foods containing vitamin A benefits without exceeding the tolerance level to minimize health risks and hair loss.

The Institute of Medicine recommends 1,300 mcg of vitamin A per day for adult women who are breastfeeding, 770 mcg per day for pregnant women, adults and 700 mcg per day for other adult women.
