The new discovery is initiated from Chanares, a rock formation in Argentina which saves fossil dinosaur ancestors. Researchers analyzed two of the rocks, and their estimates have been virtually proven. Chanares fossil aged five to ten million years younger than previously thought.
Chanares located below Ischigualasto formations, which hold fossils of dinosaurs about 230 million years ago.
"If you want to understand the origins of the dinosaurs, this is the right place," said team member Randall Irmis, palaeontologist at the Natural History Museum of Utah, Salt Lake City, at RT,
Scientists hope that if they already know the exact age of the rocks Chanares, it will give them an answer, such as when the dinosaur ancestors stored in Ischigualasto formation transformed into a dinosaur.
Claudia Marsicano, paleontologists from the University of Buenos Aires and his team analyzed crystals of zircon from rocks. When formed, the crystals 'hold' uranium through a process of decay turns into lead.
After researching 20 crystal, the researchers conclude that the rock formation was formed between 236 to 234 million years ago. During this time, paleontologists thought Chanares fossil aged 247 to 237 years.
"Using radioactive isotopes of chemical substances, we got evidence of the gap between the era of dinosaurs and dinosaur predecessor beings first shorter 5 to 10 million years than previously thought," the researchers wrote.
This latest discovery shows that the first dinosaurs to spread rapidly and effectively to the ecosystem, where their ancestors lived.
"They appear and quickly bring its variety," wrote Marsicano who is the leader of the research team. "They are developing quite successfully."
That is, this new study contradicts the initial theory that the dinosaurs did not appear until there are changes in the environment and ecosystems.
Dinosaurs and their predecessors - the so-called dinosauromorphs - have little in common except a few physical differences.
For example, dinosaur skulls have additional holes for the regulation of cooling themselves better after intensive activity. They also have stronger leg muscles and can run faster with the hips that can spin faster, and has an additional coccyx.
"Dinosaurs do not necessarily appear and power," deputy leader of the research, Irmis explained.
"This study emphasizes that there is not much special about the first dinosaurs. They are like brothers dinosauromorph and is likely to have a similar behavior.
