ISS astronauts Grow First Flower In Space

In a genre of Science Fiction Novel work entitled The Martian Andy Weir, NASA astronaut Mark Watney described life on Mars and growing plants on the planet. This fictional story is now starting to become a reality. A team of astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) successfully cultivate flowers Zinnia outside the Earth's atmosphere.
Zinnia flowers are edible flowers such as lettuce and can be used in salads. This flower has been named as the first flowers that bloom in space, after a number of botanical experiments previously declared failed.

As reported Dailymail, January 17, 2016, botany project leader, Trent Smith, said that growing plants in space is difficult. Plants are more sensitive to environmental parameters and characteristics of light, with a duration of 60 to 80 days of growth.

ISS decided to grow more plants in space after the team succeeded in his mission. Plants in outer space is very important for astronauts as it can provide a source of food in space missions that take a long time.

Unfortunately, after the mission ended successfully, Smith and his team see the water seeping out of the leaves. Excess moisture in the soil planting flowers soon lead to too much water on the leaves. Two flowers eventually die in early 2016, but the remaining interest was rescued and grow until eventually blossom ditanggal January 8, 2016.
