How Long Can Earth Sustains Life?

Earth can continue to sustain life until at least 1.75 billion years, if within that period there was no nuclear war, asteroid that destroyed the earth, or any other disaster.

Even without the doomsday scenario, astronomers can determine the planet more habitable. In a recent study, in between 1.75 billion and 3.25 billion years from now, Earth will be circling the solar system into the "hot zone".

This zone is determined by the water. A planet that is habitable, is largely determined by the availability of water. The closer to the sun, the planet will be close to the "hot zone", which will evaporate the water in it. And of course, life would not exist.

Now, researchers are looking for other planets habitable. But the complexity of life is not that easy.

As on Earth, the simple cells appeared about 4 billion years ago. "We had insects 400 million years ago, dinosaurs about 300 million years ago, and plants about 130 years ago," said Andrew Rushby, researchers from the University of East Anglia in England.

"Anatomically modern humans appeared about 200 thousand years ago, and takes a long time for intelligent and evolving," he added.

Rushby and his colleagues developed a new tool to calculate the time available for the evolution of other planets, is a model which can predict a planet could be habitable.

In his research, published in the journal Astrobiology, they apply the model of the Earth and eight other planets in the habitable zone, including Mars.

"If we are required to leave Earth to another planet, Mars is a solution that is possible," said Rushby. "Mars is very close and it will be a habitable zone until the sun dies, ie 6 billion years from now."

But whether it be realized? Only God knows. :)
