years ago. Analysis of rocks on the Moon brought by the Apollo astronauts successfully showed traces of a planet called Theia.

Launched by the BBC on Saturday (06/07/2014), the researchers claim that their discovery confirms a theory that the Moon was created by a devastating collision. The study was published by the journal Science.

This theory is in effect since 1980, which explains that the Moon appears as a result of a collision between the Earth and Theia 4.5 billion years ago.

Theia is the name of the goddess in Greek mythology, said to be the mother of Selene, goddess of the Moon. It's been anticipated formation is the result of the impact of the debris of the two planets were joined into one.

This is the simplest explanation, and fits in well with the simulation on a computer. The main weakness in this theory is that, no one is able to find evidence of Theia material in samples of lunar rock.

Previous analyzes showed that the Moon rocks originated entirely from Earth. While computer simulations indica
