Lancaster University AuroraWatch UK said it received reports of sightings of the aurora borealis. However, due to the condition of the formation of natural phenomena it is considered not appropriate, the organization suspected what people see is the nacreous clouds.
A unique cloud was visible in the last few days in some parts of the UK.
This phenomenon is also known as mother of pearl clouds, as seen in various places in Scotland including Aberdeen, Aviemore, Dundee, Dunfermline, Inverness and Perth. Nacreous clouds that are formed in the lower stratosphere over the polar regions, when the sun is just below the horizon.

BBC Scotland weather presenter Christopher Blanchett said, the effects of the storm Gertrude and Henry may have increased the likelihood that the cloud formation.

"The cloud colorful it is very charming because they are rarely seen. The clouds, rainbow-colored attract formed in the stratosphere of the earth about 70 thousand feet, far above where other clouds are usually found and in the air is cooler, around minus 78 degrees Celsius, "said BBC Scotland weather resenter Christopher Blanchett
"Usually the condition at that height for cloud formation is too dry. But during the winter, polar temperatures can go down quite low and trigger the formation of the cloud," said Blanchett as quoted by the BBC,
Blanchett also said that the colors of the rainbow clouds appear due to refraction of sunlight by ice crystals.
"Here in Scotland, the storm that occurred recently may be one of the trigger. Plus the strong winds that make the moisture into the stratosphere. Their color comes from ice crystals refracted sunlight, which gives a rainbow effect."
"They are most clearly visible before dawn and after sunset, because they are in the sun longer on the altitude. They are sometimes referred to as the 'mother of pearl' cloud otherwise known as polar stratospheric clouds."
