Since 1993, farmers from the village Inakadate, Aomori Prefecture, Japan has managed to create intricate designs rice by mixing different types of rice to produce works of high artistic value.
Each year, farmers plant rice with different colors to create new artwork. This work will they maintain throughout the growing season until harvest.
Over the years they have been able to create beautiful forms such as the Mona Lisa and images of historical figures such as Napoleon. There is also a well-known figure drawing such as Marilyn Monroe, as well as traditional Japanese icons.
The local government has set up a special place in height so that visitors can see works of art clearly from above.
Hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over Japan and overseas flocked Inakadate want to see the beauty of the rice fields.
The existence of unique fields in Inakadate bring progress in the tourism sector of the village. Nobody thought that if 20 years ago this village almost died because of shrinking population and a decrease in revenue from the agricultural sector.
The village formerly only known as one of the oldest villages in northern Japan. But now, the village is very famous because of the unique fields created farmers.

To create these works of art was not any farmers make. Required careful planning and lengthy process. They were first designed using a computer to find out how to grow rice with the unique method.
Then, with the help of hundreds of volunteers, farmers grow paddy-rice genetically modified to produce a variety of colors, ranging from red, yellow, white, mixed with a variety of green foliage to produce intricate designs.
